About Orange Archway

Two partners, one standard: get it right or don't put it out.

Orange Archway Productions is a boutique independent film company. We are not a studio and we are not a pipeline — we are two producers who take on a small number of stories at a time and stay with each one from first conversation to final delivery.

Our Story

Founded to tell the stories that get left out.

Orange Archway Productions was founded by Patricia Wilson-Smith and Germain Green around a shared frustration: the stories that matter most are rarely the ones that get made. The people who lived through a national tragedy, who did the brave thing without an audience, who kept a family and a community together — those stories are everywhere. They simply are not funded, and they are not easy to protect once they are.

So we built a company with a deliberately small footprint, where a partner is present at every stage, and where subjects are collaborators rather than material. Our first two titles sit at opposite ends of the form — a feature documentary about a death that became a movement, and a 24-minute animated short about a blind man who led five people out of the Oklahoma City bombing — but they were made with the same instruction: earn the story first.

The name is a nod to the work itself. An archway is structure you build so someone else can pass through safely. That is what a good film does with difficult history.

The Partners

Who you will actually be working with.

When you work with Orange Archway, you work directly with the people who own the company. No account layer, no hand-off.

Founding Partner · Producer

Patricia Wilson-Smith

Patricia Wilson-Smith is a producer, screenwriter and long-time technology executive who has spent her career building organisations and telling stories designed to bridge deep American divides. She is a founding partner of Orange Archway Productions and serves as an executive producer on both of the company's titles.

On Garner: The Breath That Breathed a Movement, Patricia is one of four executive producers alongside Gwen Carr, Dr. Arshley Emile and Germain Green. The film traces back to a conversation between Patricia and Gwen Carr, Eric Garner's mother, who connected her with the filmmakers — a relationship that shaped the project from its earliest stage. She also executive produced the 2024 animated short Walk In The Light, which earned an NAACP Image Award nomination in the Outstanding Short Form category.

Her storytelling work is deeply informed by the survivors and first responders of the Oklahoma City bombing, the subject at the heart of Walk In The Light.

Outside of film, Patricia is the founder and CEO of an Atlanta-based technology consulting firm she established in 2010, and previously founded the national advocacy group Black Women for Obama. She has been a contributor to HuffPost, a guest on Democracy Now!, and for years hosted Press Pause, a weekly interview programme on Atlanta's WAEC Love 860 AM. She is also the author of the memoir Duped By Love.

Germain Green

Germain Green is a founding partner of Orange Archway Productions, where he focuses on feature documentary development and production. He serves as an executive producer on Garner: The Breath That Breathed a Movement, working alongside Gwen Carr, Dr. Arshley Emile and Patricia Wilson-Smith to bring the film to completion and release.

Germain co-founded the company with Patricia around a shared commitment to nonfiction storytelling that holds institutions to account while keeping the humanity of the people at its centre. He is involved across development, production and the partnerships that sustain a long-gestating independent film.

How We Work

The commitments we make to the people in our films.

Consent before craft

Nobody's story gets told because it makes a better film. Subjects understand what we are making, why, and where it will appear — before we roll.

Accuracy over speed

Claims get checked, records get pulled, and people get the right to respond. A slower film is worth more than a corrected one.

The story stays theirs

We work with families, communities and institutions as partners — not as sources. Where a film can support an ongoing cause, we build that in.

What's Next

Two films in the world. More in development.

Orange Archway is actively developing additional documentary and narrative projects. Announcements will be made here first.

Now

Complete Garner

Finishing post-production on the feature documentary, then festival strategy and release. Completion funding and impact partners are welcome.

Ongoing

Screening programme

Walk In The Light continues its run on the festival and screening circuit, with moderated talkbacks available for schools, museums and community groups.

Next

Development slate

New nonfiction and narrative projects are in development. If you are a filmmaker, archivist, subject or funder with a story worth building, start a conversation.

Come and tell us what you're working on.

Filmmakers, funders, institutions and subjects — we read every inquiry ourselves.
